On the ocean...for the first time

I finally gave in! Our son took his first trip out into the great big blue this weekend. Nathan has been wanting to take Paul out on the ocean since...umm...forever! He finally got us out there, and even Grandma Jeannie (who is NOT a sea faring lady) came out too. After a little rocky start, one tired baby, a medicated grandma, an ecstatic grandpa, an even more ecstatic daddy, and a woozy mommy we made it out onto the Moss landing dock and into the water.

Paul was bundled head to toe and strapped tight with his new life jacket and a mama bear-bear hug. It was a typical foggy day, but the ocean wasn't TOO bad and we made two fisherman very happy! Paul did great! He pointed to the water and other boats, called all the sea lions "da" (as that's what he calls most things these days), and waved at the fisher people on shore. He got to hold the fishing pole (more photo op than actual fishing effort) and Grandpa Mike got to see his grandson become a "salty dog" as he puts it.

Daddy was SO proud and happy to have his son on the water. When Paul was still in the belly, Nathan use to dream about the days he and his son would go out fishing together, just the two of them. This day was the start of the realization of this dream. How awesome for him to be living a dream! Inevitably, the waves lulled Paul to sleep and he passed out on the captain's chair between Mommy and Grandma Jeannie on the way back in. Mom suffered the rest of the day fighting the tummy tossing, but it was so worth it.

What must God have been thinking when he created the sea?! I always tell Nathan when you're out on the ocean, it's like the view from the other side of the world. You feel so small in comparison to the vast ocean. What a feat to think up such a place. Oh God...you never cease to amaze us! How truly great you are! And what a blessed day we had with our newly christened little fisherboy.

We loved being a part of our little salty dog's first excursion in the Monterey Bay.
